Pelee Dancing

Dedicated To The Memory Of
Maurice & Katia Krafft

"Pelee Dancing" Photo by Katia Krafft

The photo is of a lava river on the northeast rift zone of Mona Loa at about the 2700m elevation. The river of lava is about 10m wide at its widest.

Both Maurice and Katia dedicated their lives to the study of volcanology and in particular, volcanic eruptions. They died together along with other photographers, volcanologists, and scientists on June 3rd, 1991 at the Unzen volcano in Japan. The world of volcanology and geoscientists about the world will miss this dedicated couple. Their dedication and work is an inspiration to all of us and they will forever remain in our hearts. This web page is respectfully dedicated to their memory.
